Considering a Level 2 ROM upgrade but need a circuit board holder?
Luis Fernando Salazar posted on a [https://www.facebook.com/groups/trs80games/permalink/314159935871069/ - Hotlink Deleted] TRS-80 Facebook group a link to [https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3252566 - Hotlink Deleted] his 3D-printed plastic mounts to hold L2 ROMs on thingiverse.com. He has a couple other printed replacement parts there too.
With access to these files and a 3D printer you too can create these parts.
Kyle Wadsten has released his interface boards for the Model 3 and 4 that allow plugging in modern keyboards into the classic TRS-80 Model 3 & 4 machines.
There are two different board designs, one for USB keyboards and another for PS/2 input.
What I find very intriguing and helpful is the ability to use the existing keyboard along with a modern keyboard at the same time.

Joe Rouceville has been designing and building peripherals for the Model I which he wants to share with everyone.
First is TRS80HDD. It is a way to run TRS-80 Model I disks from a SD card. Similar to a MISE but far less sophisticated. Schematics, instructions, and background can be found on his GitHub repository [https://github.com/calphool/TRS80HDD - Hotlink Deleted]. He hadvises that all parts are currently attainable at mouse, the edge adapter from DigiKey, and the schematics can be sent to allpbc for creation of a PCB.
Second is TRS80GS. It is an expander for a TRS-80 Model that includes Texas Instruments video and audio chips to permit the Model I to do color graphics and have 6 tonal voices and 2 drum voices. It also supports atari/commodore joysticks. Schematics, instructions, and background can be found on his GitHub repository [https://github.com/calphool/TRS80GS - Hotlink Deleted].
Thanks for keeping the TRS-80 alive, Joe!
After almost 5 (!) months, I have completed preparing a relevant (or as relevant as it can be) screenshot for every single entry in the Model 1/3/4 archive. That is over 17,000 screenshots. This entailed running every single program to make sure it worked; a task made difficult by the fact that different programs run on different models, and different DOS's, and may even be a different version of BASIC (ZBASIC, NewBASIC, GBASIC, BASICG, SuperBasic, etc). It was a project long in the coming.
I would like to give a special shout-out to George Philips for tweaking his TRS80GP emulator to assist in this effort.
Along the way I have found out things like:
The podcast TRS-80 Trash Talk # 28 is out now. In this episode, the Trash Talkers discuss how to buy and sell TRS-80s. Using their wealth of knowledge about the Tandy collector's market they go in-depth on tips and techniques to use at live auctions, eBay, Craigslist and other marketplaces. Whether you're buying, selling or doing both, you're likely to learn quite a bit from their experience. You can download or listen at [http://www.trs80trashtalk.com/2019/02/episode-28.html - Hotlink Deleted].

Peter Cetinski has been working on a project that provides a simple, cheap, WiFi based, encrypted Internet communications via the TRS-80 by connecting to the Model III and Model 4 expansion port.
TRSNIC provides the foundational protocols required to implement modern network interactions on the TRS-80 microcomputer. The first such protocol provided is TCP/IP via an implementation of the Berekely Sockets API. TCP/IP is the dominant low level network protocol in use today. Many of today's higher level network protocols like HTTP and FTP are implemented on top of TCP/IP. This means many modern networking applications and systems can be built upon the base TCP/IP support provided by trsnic.

Here are pictures showing (and including some idea of the packaging as everything goes into its own box):

- front of the Color Computer
- Color Computer Disk Drive with all the parts
- Color Computer Multi-Pak Interface
- Color Computer Graphics Tablet (X-Pad) - notice the condition of the box - yet the Tablet is totally clean

I am way late to the game on this one. George Philips has written and released a Windows executable file call TRLD which will convert between cas, hex, bas, and cmd.
According to his [http://48k.ca/trld.html - Hotlink Deleted] website:
trld reads one or more TRS-80 programs in .cmd, .cas, .hex or .bas format and saves them as a single .rom, .cmd, .cas or .hex file. As input it supports 250, 500 and 1500 baud .cas cassette image files as well as tokenized and ASCII .bas BASIC program files. Output can be in .cmd, .cas, .hex or .wav (audio file) format.
A precompiled binary for Windows is included along with the source code which can easily be compiled on Mac and Linux systems. These program loading routines are the same ones used in my TRS-80 Model I/III/4 emulator.
trld is a command-line tool. It takes a list of files. The last one is the output file, the rest are loaded in sequence and combined together to form the output. The format of the input files is determined automatically. The output format is chosen depending on the file suffix. For example, to convert a cassette file to a .cmd (disk executable format) you would type:
trld original.cas original.cmd
With multiple input files the program start address is taken from the last file. For ".cas" output the name of the SYSTEM file is based on the first 6 letters of the output file name. With
trld file.cmd ..\converted\out.cas
The "..\converted\out.cas" file will be called "OUT" and that's the name you must pass to the SYSTEM command. If you're using Play CAS, it tells you the tape file's name.
The utility can be downloaded from George's [http://48k.ca/trld.html - Hotlink Deleted] website.

On this day in 1977, the TRS-80 was announced at a press conference at the Warwick Hotel in New York City!

First, the podcast TRS-80 Trash Talk # 37 is out now.
In this episode we discuss a whole bunch of TRS-80 accessories and recent acquisitions. We then talk about the TRS-80 music album "Classical Mosquito" by Robb Murray. Then we dive into some interesting eBay sales of rare TRS-80 accessories. We wrap up with a review of the classic TRS-80 programming book "TRS-80 Assembly Language Programming" by William Barden Jr."

TRS-80 Trask Talk LIVE is coming up on September 26, 2020 at 5PM Eastern Time (2PM California Time).
The next TRS-80 Trash Talk live show is Oct 24th at 9PM EDT! More details will be provided as it comes closer. In addition to the usual revelry and camaraderie of our typical live show, we'll be having a few special presentations to make up for the lack of Tandy Assembly this year. :(
Arno Puder and Andrew Quinn will be giving a presentation and demonstration of two exciting new TRS-80 projects, TRS-IO-M1 and PocketTRS.
Here are some of the highlights:
TRS-IO-M1:
PocketTRS:
- TRS-IO port to the M1
- Supports all features of TRS-IO (FreHD, RetroStore, trs-nic, etc)
- Same code base as the TRS-IO MIII
- Has a 32kB SRAM chip included
- Auto-boot feature
- Fully Open Source
Then, Tim Halloran will give us a short demo and progress report on hacking the CHOMRAtrs.
- Hardware emulation of a MIII
- Display via VGA. Color can be set to green, white, or amber
- Keyboard via PS/2
- Audio interface can be used for game sound as well as cassette input (500 Baud only)
- I/O expansion bus emulation: one can connect external cards such as FreHD
- Has TRS-IO embedded
- Fully Open Source
Despite glacial postal service between the US and Australia and chip shortages, a few of the new CHROMAtrs boards from Ian Mavric are working (based on work by Pascal Holdry). You may not know that Robert S French released much of the software (Ira's site) and it is possible to obtain the code and work on it. That's what Tim Halloran has been up to (with help from George Phillips) -- in particular making it easier for cassette-based systems to use the board.
So mark the date and time and come join us on Zoom. Everyone is welcome, even fans of other vintage computer platforms. See you on Zoom!
To attend, go to [https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86907465958?wd=a1lLQzFKaGN0dzludU9MWUs2TDhsUT09 - Hotlink Deleted] at the appropriate time!
Hope to see you there!
Arno Puder and Andrew Quinn have developed a Model III on a board with TRS-IO built in. For information, gerbers, etc., visit [https://github.com/apuder/PocketTRS - Hotlink Deleted].
Arno has also made his TRS-IO working with a Model I. For information, gerbers, etc., visit [https://github.com/apuder/TRS-IO - Hotlink Deleted].
Richard Lamb has been creating some new TRS-80 software. You can find his efforts at [https://github.com/voidware - Hotlink Deleted].

Jens Guenther has updated his forked [https://gitlab.com/jengun/sdltrs - Hotlink Deleted] SDLTRS to v1.2.13.
A site visitor who received a bunch of tapes and disks from Charles Guy (owner of Cornsoft) before Charles passed away in 2004 has identified that DOSPLUS 3.4A for the Model III is not properly handled by TRSTools/TRSRead.
Two other DOS's which do not read properly are TRSDOS v2.3B and TRSDOS 2.7SD.
So if you are dealing with those DOS's, try VDISK instead, and don't make the mistake I did of believing the images are damaged (mea culpa).

Stephen Eddy let me know that he has made Model I cases for the Raspberry Pi.
You can see/buy at [https://retropicases.com/collections/other-cases/products/tandy-trs-80-model-1-raspberry-pi-case - Hotlink Deleted].
Update: Claimed.
TRS-80 Model I with screen, expansion interface, and keyboard/CPU + some software (all as shown) free for local pickup outside Chicago. Owner has no idea if it CURRENTLY works, but said it did work when last used 20 years ago.
As always, first to contact me at the following email address, first served. Email to freetrs80 at trs-80 dot com

The next TRS-80 Trash Talk live show is Oct 24th at 9PM EDT! More details will be provided as it comes closer.

Michael Wessel has developed the Talker/80, a new Voice Syhtesizer for the Model I, III, and 4. It has natural sounding speak (like Alexa), requires no machine language driver, and has an E/I passthrough so it will work with a E/I, FreHD, and Quinterface.
The Talker/80 emulates the TRS-80 Voice Synthesizer and the VS-100.
The Talker/80 is open source under the GPL3 License and is maker-friendly (no surface mount soldering and easy to acquire parts). See:

Tim Mann, original author of the Catweasel tools, has [https://www.tim-mann.org/catweasel.html - Hotlink Deleted] posted on his web site that he has turned over control of the tools to Quentin Barnes, who is actively working on updating the Catweasel to DMK tool.

We are trying to track down different versions of the Model III and Model 4 ROM's. If you are willing, can everyone please run MEMTEST (which is found on every Model III TRSDOS disk) and see if your "ROM C" matches any of these checksums:
If you have any of these, please Contact Me.

Quentin noticed that a TRS-80 on a shelf in the "Muggles Studies" classroom of Jam City's "Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery" a TRS-80.
Thanks to the help of a lot of people in the community, with a special shout-out to George Philips and Ken Brookner, the Model III ROM Checksum and the Model 4 ROM checksum pages have been updated.
As previously asked, if you run TRSDOS 1.3's MEMTEST on your Model III or 4 and have any of the following checksums, please Contact Me: 158C, 1591, 2764, 276A, 33CB, 38BC, 48AA, or 676A

Lawrence Kesteloot has written an amazing web site which permits you to drag and drop WAV CAS or BAS files into the web page and it will attempt to clean up the WAV but also let you view the reconstructed BASIC code as ASCII (and CMD code as a disasembly) and show you the corresponding tape bits.

Episode # 38 of the podcast TRS-80 Trash Talk is out now.
In this episode we're joined by guest host Patrick Bureau from Texas Tandy Restorations. Patrick leads us through the controversial topic of whether or not to repaint your TRS-80. We also discuss lots of TRS-80 news and several interesting acquisitions, including a TRS-80 voice control device known as the Scott Instruments VET-2. Finally, in our interview segment, Pete interviews the well known TRS-80 hacker Tim Mann."

(Dean-Bear)[M13].gif)
Dean Bear has been kind enough to update his ROM-ID Utility for the Model I, III, and 4 (Model 4 in Model III Mode) based on the checksums determined from the research. You can download that file from the TRS-80 Software Search Page by searching for Dean Bear in the Author box. The Model I/III and Model 4 copies are identical, and the 2013 file is the deprecated one. Thank you Dean!
For those up to checking their ROMs but who cannot get ROMID onto their system, you can find your ROM checksums using plain old TRSDOS 1.3's MEMTEST on your Model III or 4.
Either way, if you have any of the following checksums, please Contact Me: 158C, 1591, 2764, 276A, 33CB, 38BC, 48AA, or 676A

Dean Bear has been kind enough to do one more update his ROM-ID Utility for the Model I, III, and 4 (Model 4 in Model III Mode)
This update does 2 things: [1] Includes compatibility with TRSDOS for the Model III (wrapped the M3 routine to work with both M1 and M3) and [2] Added the current iterations of the FreHD ROMs to the identifiable list of ROMs.
If you downloaded ROMID over the past few days, please re-download it. You can download that file from the TRS-80 Software Search Page by searching for Dean Bear in the Author box.
A gentleman in Florida has an extremely large collection of Tandy / Radio Shack service manuals and disks free for local pickup only ... so, if you live near Lakeland FL (between Tampa and Orlando) and can rescue them ...! He does not want to give them to someone who will sell them, and is looking for someone who might be willing to preserve them digitally (i.e., scan them).>
Even if you do not want the items, but live in the area and can store them for a few weeks, we would love your help. We can likely get down there and/or have a task rabbit pack and ship to us, but not within the one week we have, so if you can pick up and store, that would be a great help to the TRS-80 community too.>
The items available / needing pickup are:
If you can pick these up within the next week, please Contact Me.
The Model III Parts page and the Hard Drive page have been udpated to include Newsoft products and Texas Tandy Restoration's guide to painting.>
The Disk Conversion page has been udpated to further implement the various new hardware solutions.>

Quentin Barnes has releases v4.6 of the Catweasel Tools originally written by Tim Mann.
Changelog:
- Skipping over 4.5.x versions since George Phillips had used that point release line for his work.
- Git repo "cw2dmk" of Tim Mann's work was created by ezrec (Jason S. McMullan). Transferred to qbarnes.
- Switched Linux release binaries to be for 64-bit OSes.
- Added change from George Phillips for his "join" (-j) feature that will join different rereads of the same track and merge good sectors.
- Fixed problem of missing data between index hole detect and read started. This should noticably reduce disk read errors and even occasionally dropping of entire sectors.
- Added change to allow cw2dmk tools to function on newer Linux releases by enabling PCI I/O space access if disabled.
- Added change to recognize and skip factory-formatted sides of a disk. Controlled with -b option.
- The subdirectory "cwsdpmi" is now a git sub-module for picking up the "cwsdpmi.exe" binary for MS-DOS.
- Cleaned up and merged multiple makefiles for different environments into one. Makes it easier to maintain, build, and cross-build. By default, the Makefile will now only build for the native OS. See the new file BUILDING.md for further information.
- Created subdirectory "firmware" for holding firmware related files including a LICENSE file. I also received some additional documentation from Jens Schoenfeld on programming the MK3 and MK4 and a file with firmware revision history saved here as firmware/Changelog.
- To be less generic, renamed "testhist" binary to "cwtsthst", still keeping to MS-DOS's 8.3 file naming convention.
- Update code base to be 64-bit clean. Fixed all known problems but some may remain.
- Changed to using semantic versioning for version ID.
You can download from [https://github.com/qbarnes/cw2dmk/releases/tag/v4.6.0 - Hotlink Deleted] Github.
