TRS-80 Computers: TRS-80 Color Computer (CoCo)

This page is here for completeness. I have never seen or used any of the CoCo line and have NO knowledge about any of them. If you have any error corrections, please let me know. Otherwise, I am sure there are plenty of sites devoted to the CoCo which would have far more information!

RSC-4 Description

Easyto- use Program Paks program your Color Computer instantly for a variety of games and personal uses. Just pop one into the computer, and you're ready to go!
Compare the TRS-80 Color Computer to others selling for over twice our price. We offer a deluxe, full 53-key keyboard that will please the touch typist. Plus, an advanced BASIC-similar to Model I BASIC- that includes machine language programming, and a built-in serial interface- all exclusive to the TRS-80 Color Computer.
Or, Program it Yourself ...
Your TRS-80 Color Computer comes with an introductory manual that helps you take advantage of the new Color BASIC language. You'll learn to use the simple commands to create graphics displays and control color and sound. You can write your own programs and record them at high speed on cassette tape (recorder not included).
TRS-80 Expandability!
Like all TRS-80s, the Color Computer is easy to expand. (See next page for accessories.) You can start with 4K RAM and convert to 16K RAM any time you want it. You can move up to our powerful Extended Color BASIC that will give you a versatile set of commands for higher resolution graphics capabilities , intrinsic functions, EDIT, TRACE and other advanced programming features. The Color Computer has a built-in RS232 for easy communications ability by adding a telephone communications modem. It can even be used as a terminal in conjunction with VIDEOTEX Software (see page 35). Expansion doesn't have to stop there either-you can also add a printer. And soon, you'll be able to add disk storage! Of course, the selection of quality Color Computer software will keep growing all the time.
Exciting Color Action Games!
The Color Computer is great fun family entertainment, too. Radio Shack offers many actionpacked games that bring the excitement of an arcade into your home. (Don't tell the kids , but some will be educational.) Travel into outer space for high-speed combat, or challenge the "mind" of a thinking machine in chess. Remember, all games are in handy instantloading Program Paks-it couldn't be easier to use. Dual Joysticks are also available for even faster and more realistic action in some games. U.L. listed AC operation.
TRS-80 Color BASIC
With TRS-80 Color BASIC you can write your own programs using simple BASIC commands. When you buy a Color Computer, you get a language that is stronger than the TRS-80 Level I and compares favorably to Level II, plus it has several commands that are unique. For example, its special graphics capability lets you position the joystick controller (JOYSTK). And you can add a choice of 8 colors (SET) or even musical notes (SOUND) to your programs. This well-rounded BASIC is capable of handling everything from word strings to math functions. The computer hobbyist will appreciate its PEEK, POKE and USR(0) commands for accessing machine language subroutines. The technical buff will find its 9-digit nwneric accuracy and mathematics functions very useful. They include: ABSabsolute value, INT- greatest integer, RND - random number, SGN - sign, SIN - sine, and SOR- square root. Advanced programmers will like its string handling capability. And you have data handling commands, dimensioned arrays, and printer output commands. Each Color Computer comes with Color BASIC, plus manual. And you can expand to the extended BASIC at any time.
TRS-80 Extended Color BASIC
All the features of standard Color BASIC, plus advanced graphic capabilities. Screen resolution of up to 256x192 (16K RAM required), produces dazzling graphic simulations. Generate complex sounds using more than one musical note. Just look at the variety of graphic commands available. You can save an image from the screen, display a predefined image, "zoom" the graphic image "in" or "out," choose from 8 colors, draw a line between two points, rotate the image, move the image from one area of the screen to another, draw a circle, and draw a rectange or box. Plus there are two very useful commands: TIMES$-returns the time, and PRINT$-prints in dollars and cents format. Extended Color BASIC also gives you program editing capabilities, specific error messages, user-definable keys, string arrays up to 255 characters, floating point decimal, and machine language routines.

Archiving your programs from cassette to PC

For BASIC language programs use this method:

  1. CLOAD the program into the MC10 then CSAVE it directly to the PC (with the shortest possible leads), using your favourite audio capture program saving as WAV file. 44.1KHz 8Bit Mono
  2. LOAD saved file into the emulator (don't worry about editing the WAV file)
  3. SAVE the program
  4. Use the C10TOWAV conversion tool to convert the C10 file to a WAV file

For machine language programs use this method:

  1. Use BACKUP or ID.CSAVE and CSAVE directly to the PC
  2. Use the BACKUP program loaded into the emulator following step 4 of the BASIC conversion

The saved program in WAV format can be downloaded to a real MC-10 by plugging your audio input lead into the speaker output of the pc's sound card.
